1 night - onsen therapy in kuchinoerabu

One night and two days in Kuchinoerabu Island. It is the wildest and most undiscovered of the Osumi islands. Kuchinoerabu has some of the best hot spring water in all of Japan. Kuchinoerabu has one of the most active volcanoes in the world on it. This tour is recommended to people visiting Yakushima. It is only accessible from there.

itinerary:

Day 1 -

  • In Yakushima, the day before you catch the boat, buy all of the food and drink you will need for your trip. Shopping on Kuchinoerabu is extremely limited! Then catch the early boat at 8:10am.

  • Get picked up at the port by your guide/host at 9:50am and check in.

  • Begin your personalised tour of the island with a local and extremely knowledgable guide. You can walk around the village and learn about nature, culture and volcanic experiences. You can go to some wonderful healing hot springs. And depending on the danger levels of the volcano, you may be able to climb it.

  • Make a BBQ/dinner for yourself in the evening.

  • Go to the local evening village hot spring.

  • Try to find the native fruit bats in the banyan trees while star gazing.

Day 2 -

  • A slow day fit for reading a book or chilling out. If you have an international drivers license you could rent a car or scooter and visit more hot springs. Catch the 15:10 boat back to Yakushima.
