about:
Islands-of-Japan offers free information and booking to anyone trying to plan their trip to an island in Japan. This can include boats, hotels, tours, scuba diving, trekking, kayaking, car-rental, restaurants, airplanes, helicopters and more.
Most of the businesses on the islands are not on the internet in English. They exist but aren’t easily found or booked. That is where we can help. Our connections with these islands means that we can help you from start to finish and help to connect you with people, places and businesses that you can trust.
information & Bookings:
Our information and booking service is free. Please just get in touch if you have questions or booking requests. We recommend a donation of 20% of the cost of your booking to keep our service open for future travelers. It is non obligatory, but appreciated. Think of it as money saved, because a travel agent would charge you more.
our missions:
To help you get to most beautiful, far flung, unknown islands in japan. There are over 400 inhabited islands in japan and some of them are breathtaking.
To help these islands survive. A lot of them face extinction from shrinking, ageing populations and a lack of opportunities. We want to help to change that by breathing new economic life into some of these remote communities, in the form of sustainable and locally based tourism.
Why choose us?
Islands-of-Japan offer private care and attention to your trip. Mike and Minami have lived and worked on some of the smallest and most stunning islands of Japan for a combined 19 years. We have deep connections with local businesses and know lifelong professionals in scuba diving, trekking, photography etc.
With us you won’t just be getting a holiday. You will be getting a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to places that your friends have never even heard of. A lot of these islands are barely on the internet in English at all!
One more reason to choose islands-of-japan is that we support islanders and local businesses. By only using local businesses we are committed to making your trip as interesting and authentic as possible. This is great for you and it is also great for the local communities of the islands, some of which are facing economic hard times. Almost all online booking businesses take a sizeable cut directly from local hotels and services. We pledge not to do this.
